Historic Ali Amzad Clock and Kean Bridge

The Kean Bridge is a notable landmark of Sylhet city. Kean Bridge was named after Sir Micheal Keane, who was the governor of Assam and constructed the bridge in 1936. It is a steel truss bridge and such bridges are one of the oldest types of modern bridge. Standing over the kean bridge, if anybody peers down will catch the sight of Ali Amzad clock. It is said that, Ali Amzad, the famous Zamidar of Pritrimpasa was invited to observe Delhi and thereby charmed by the clock made with the instigation of the princess of Delhi. He also craved to build the same and eventually made it with the similar design and pattern. This is the oldest and first clock tower of Bangladesh. Now it’s called Ali Amzad garhi located on the Northern bank of the Surma River at Chandnighat, Sylhet.
