Mind refreshing Ratargul Swamp Forest



Ratargul Swamp Forest is  a forest which is flooded with fresh water, located at Goainghat sub district in Sylhet. It is the only swamp forest found in Bangladesh and one of the rare freshwater swamp forests in the world. This forest is naturally conserved by the Govt. of Bangladesh although one may hardly find any protector there. 

The evergreen forest is situated by the river Goain and connected with the cannel chenger Khal. Chenger Khal is famous for local fish. Koroch tree mostly grew here. In the rains forest flourish with water whereas in winter water deteriorate even one can walk through forest. It’s the habitat of different snakes, monkeys, lizards, insects & birds. Sometime snakes may move toward your boat so you need to be careful. Small boat is better to go through narrow spaces of the forest. You might get the flavor of Amazon forest here though this forest is locally known as Mini Shundorbon.

Historic Ali Amzad Clock and Kean Bridge



The Kean Bridge is a notable landmark of Sylhet city. Kean Bridge was named after Sir Micheal Keane, who was the governor of Assam and constructed the bridge in 1936. It is a steel truss bridge and such bridges are one of the oldest types of modern bridge. Standing over the kean bridge, if anybody peers down will catch the sight of Ali Amzad clock. It is said that, Ali Amzad, the famous Zamidar of Pritrimpasa was invited to observe Delhi and thereby charmed by the clock made with the instigation of the princess of Delhi. He also craved to build the same and eventually made it with the similar design and pattern. This is the oldest and first clock tower of Bangladesh. Now it’s called Ali Amzad garhi located on the Northern bank of the Surma River at Chandnighat, Sylhet.

Megalithic Shahi Eidgah



Shahi Eidgah is one of the popular tourist attractions of the area. Shahi Eidgah, One of the largest and oldest Eidgahs in Bangladesh, was built on a hill by the Mughal Emperor Aurangazeb in the 17th century. It looks like a grade fort but is actually built for Eid congregation-the two biggest Muslim festivals. The Shahi Eidgah is situated on a hillock at the south-easten end of Sylhet city. The area is surrounded by encircling wall.

Temple of Sri Chaitannya Dev



Temple of Chaitanya Dev is other attraction of Sylhet. About 500 years old famous temple of Sri Chaitanya Dev is situated at Dhaka Dakhin under Golapganj Upazila Sylhet districts. The place is respected for being the ancestral home of the famous Vaishnava saint. Each year on the full moon day of Bangla month Falgun, a fair is organized in the premises of the Temple of Sri Chaitanya Dev. thousands of Hindu devotees pouring in not only from home but also from abroad.

Shrines



The great Saint Hazrat Shah Jalal(R:) and his 360 Sufi disciples are graved in Sylhet. Swords, the holy Quran and the robes of the holy saint are still preserved in the Dargah shrine. Everyday thousands of people from all over the country and world visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R:) and Shah Poran (R:). Visit to these shrines will instill a feeling of holiness in your mind.

Sylhet



Sylhet,the northeastern part of Bangladesh, is bordered by the Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura states of India to the north, east and south, respectively; and by Bangladeshi divisions Chittagong to the southwest and Dhaka to the west. Sylhet is known as spiritual town and one of the most picturesque regions in South Asia. Sylhet division is divided by four districts and they are Sylhet, Maulivibazar, Sunamgonj and Habiganj. This holy place is welcoming all citizens around the world to imbibe its soothing green magnificence.
Sylhet has a very interesting and rich history. It was ruled by local chieftain, before the conquest by the Muslims. In 1303, the great Saint Hazrat Shah Jalal came to Sylhet from Yemen with a band of 360 Islamic scholars’ to preach Islam and defeated then Raja Gour Gobinda, Sylhet thus became a district of saints, shrines and daring but virile people.
